The Cureus Journal of Medical Science announced today the start of a medical case report publishing competition aimed at advancing the clinical practice of MR-guided radiation therapy by documenting clinical applications and experience and sharing the information freely with the oncology community.

MR-Guided Radiation Therapy represents a fundamental change in the way radiation dose is planned, guided, and delivered. Leveraging the ability to quickly perform daily on-table MR-guided plan adaptations, while also providing automated, real-time soft-tissue tracking and gating, a new frontier of precision radiation medicine is rapidly emerging.
Authors are invited to contribute their MR-guided radiotherapy case reports and case series to the competition for publication in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science, a peer-reviewed online medical journal that provides free and open access to data to encourage knowledge sharing and cross-discipline awareness. All materials published as part of this competition will be Open Access and indexed in PubMed Central to encourage dissemination and foster educational awareness.

“Pioneering clinical experience kept within the confines of a hospital does very little to advance clinical practice or further patient care,” said John R. It’s this kind of cross-disciplinary collaboration that moves us forward in medicine and ultimately improves patient outcomes.”

All eligible submissions will undergo an independent pre-publication peer review conducted by a world-class team of radiation oncology and medical physics experts. Winners will be selected by clinicians and researchers using a crowdsourced score that measures the study’s quality, presentation and importance – a secondary peer-review feature unique to Cureus. This rating, called Scholarly Impact Quotient (SIQ), allows clinicians and researchers to quickly assess and rank article quality in a manner similar to that of Amazon® and Yelp® community reviews.

Three monetary prizes will be awarded to the published articles that receive the highest Cureus SIQ rating: $3,000 USD for first place, $2,000 USD for second place and $1,000 USD for third place.

Competition entry and article submission is entirely free. Article submissions will be accepted starting today, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 through Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. Winners will be announced on Thursday, April 19, 2018 following a period of rating and scoring by the oncology community.
